It is amazing the pull the Central Coast has on a person. I have left twice since graduating Cal Poly over 4 years ago and it all always pulls me back-- as if to say "Hope you had a nice break, but you are here to stay". Am I getting the hint yet? The Central Coast Yo-Yo...... I am the ball.... and the other side is the central coast. It lets me out for awhile but then pulls right back like a sling shot.
I have come home, back to California and it is amazing how quick I was used to not driving, only buying 4 days worth of groceries at a time, and the cold. For those who know me well... I hate the cold... and when I go out in 60 degrees in a t-shirt, you know something is "whack". However, there is a peace about this.... I am not sure why though. I went out to the Cliffs in Shell Beach yesterday to meet a friend for drinks (and it was free pizza night)... and I looked out to the ocean and it was just so calm and beautiful... I get to call that home. For half of this year... New York City was "home". I was working in the city, had an amazing Community Group, and was seeking to do community ministry with Hope for New York and working in soup kitchens, and also enjoy the New York experience. I was blessed. I fulfilled the dream, and then when I was not expecting it or planning on it... God said "So, let's go". Learning to trust God and always trust Him is tough sometimes, when there is so much "unknown" out there.
Right before I took my flight back to California, tragedy struck the East Coast again with the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting. NYC is just 60 miles south of Newtown, CT and to know that it can happen in one of the "safest towns in America", is not reassuring. My heart breaks for these families and I can not even fathom how they are feeling... even those whose children were not physically affected by the heartbreaking tragedy. There are no words, and I always wonder...: "Okay, God has allowed this to happen... why?" and sometimes we just don't know the answer. It is heart breaking that a proclaimed "baptist church" is boycotting funerals and saying this town had it "coming" due to their support of "same-sex marriage" that this is God's punishment to these people. That makes the wounds even deeper. I do not serve a God of violence. I do not have a relationship with a God who would kill innocent children. I serve a God who loved each and everyone of those children, teachers, and the families affected by this horrific tragedy. I serve a God who brings comfort, I serve a God who brings healing, hope, peace, and love. I also serve a God who gives the gift of free will... the same God who died on the cross for the sins of everyone-- even the shooter of this tragedy. I am not saying by any means that makes this right.... nothing makes this okay, nothing will justify this... doesn't matter what the media finds and reveals. This was the shooting that made me cry the most. I think the shooting in Colorado was terrible as well and then the small ones after including Wisconsin, Oregon, and the recent shootings in a mall parking lot here in California. I see the sin of our world only deepening and it reminds me that "no one will know the day or the hour of His return", but I have faith that Jesus will return, and I have faith that His timing will be the perfect timing (because God is the one of perfection).
I don't think it matters where I live.... in paradise on the central coast or the excitement and lights of New York City or in a bubble in the middle of nowhere.... the only guarantee I have is God's faithfulness. I am happy to be home and also sad my time in NY was short. I don't regret this move home by any means given the opportunity I have taken with the job here, and that it is a step in the right direction of a longer lasting career path I want to venture on. I am thankful for the wonderful friends I made in NY and can call friends, and spending time with family. I am thankful to come home to family, friends, and a church family I am blessed by daily.
Please be praying as I finalize housing this week and as we get into this holiday season that I remember this season is about the birth of Jesus and the life we have because of that gift. Also be praying for friends whom are dealing with depression and another who is job searching and seeking life/job direction. Prayers continued for my cousin Cody as he continues to heal from his car accident a couple weeks ago.

Making a Novel Possibility a Short Story....
I feel as though so much has happened in the past three weeks this should almost warrant two separate posts. However, I will do my best to blend it all together for you to be caught up!
Many of you are my Facebook friends as well so you have pictures to kind of tell you the highlights, having gone home to California for a week for Halloween parties, late birthday celebrations, a time to enjoy friends and family, as well as the necessary tasks of doctor visits. I am so committed to my doctors-- partly because I dislike doctors in general so my going willingly without nervousness is a big deal. Being home was great and a reminder that my true home is with Jesus. Being in my old house for a week I felt somewhat detached. Somehow it felt I was gone a lot longer and that it was no longer my home, even though it was familiar. I think God likes getting us to places where we are not comfortable to remind us that complacency is not what He wants for our lives. I came back to NY with a cold and have been trying to fight it, shake it, and all that ever since and it won't let up. Seems kinda stagnant. Hopefully this week it will start getting better as I continue to stay close to home when I am not working.
Coming back to NY, which is currently home, feels so familiar now that I have a routine of working, church, community group... and just being busy. What New Yorkers are known for.
This week I received an email from a recruiter who saw my resume on a job website, and I am pretty sure it is kinda outdated. Anyway, I am always into entertaining these ideas because you never know when an opportunity will come along. And it was very intriguing. Right after that I got another opportunity to apply for another position. The first position is working for Samsung as a support to the retailers who sell the product to make sure they have the support, training, and incentives needed to drive sales of the Samsung products. I would be in charge of 50 stores in a territory that I would go to and build those relationships with and check in with to make sure that I am visiting those stores and offering trainings on products and answering questions and being the overall contact person for that store with product concerns. It is definitely a huge pay increase and offers the same benefits I have now. The kicker: it brings me back to the central coast. So not sure what God is thinking, but I am sure he is amused. They are also considering me for the same position in the San Fernando Valley, but I am their number one candidate considered for the Central Coast region (Oxnard to Paso Robles and then Bakersfield). This week a lot happens with that so we shall see what happens.
Another position is for an Event Coordinator position with various spots open with a big firm both here in NY and the other in LA and San Francisco. This opportunity would allow for me to use my undergrad degree, just not sure if that is still what I want to know. I have somehow become the "expert" in a wireless industry that is never going to go away but only continue to evolve, and so there is some job security that goes along with that.
I am not sure what the future hold, and God has always had me on a need to know basis. I just know I have to trust in Him for discernment to make the right choices and be lead by the doors He opens and pushed by the doors He closes.
Prayer this week:
* Direction and discernment that He would make the right choices clear and that in the end it all works out.
*A friend of mine is studying to complete his CPA exam. Prayers for time management and motivation a he only has a couple weeks left. And then direction for jobs and where to go.
*One of my current roommates has been struggling with various health issues, so prayers for her to heal and for doctors to have the discernment to move forward in getting her healed.
*A friend who has been having back pain the past month or so pretty bad. Prayers for relief and comfort and for doctors to also have discernment in finding a real solution.
*Prayers for a dear friend who's kitty passed away suddenly last week. He was a real member of her family and prayers for comfort as she had the kitty for over 11 years.
*My other roommate is seeking job direction. Prayers for clarity.
*Prayers for friends who's home is back in escrow again, as they await for it to close so that they can start looking for a new home in their new area. Prayers for adjustments for their kids. Prayers for no hidden skeletons this time in the escrow process.
It seems as though so many are so unsure about things and where God is leading them and then there are those who are sick. As we enter the holidays is only seems the lists get longer. I pray this year the list shrinks and the Praises list gets longer.

October starts a busy season for most...
It has been a fast flying October. I go home next week for about a week and it is something I look forward to as I miss my friends and my family. It also is a reminder that those relationships are there regardless of where we are geographically speaking.
To catch up a little.... it has been a good month so far. Work has been crazy since the iPhone 5 launched and so it has been busy. And now the holidays are fast approaching. I feel as though life is getting busy, my prayer list is getting longer, and well... the weather is starting to not be in my favor (for those of you who know about my "15 degrees".).
The beginning of this month I began my involvement a little more with church. With lots of reflection, I decided it is not in my best interest to be heavily involved like I would prefer to be with Redeemer (i.e. being in Youth Ministry) as I will only be here about a year or so, and that is hard on me and the students you get close to. However, I am in a community group (CG), and it has been a blessing meeting people and developing relationships with people, some being newer to the city as well. I have also been blessed by the past several weeks being at church and being at the services that Tim Keller has been speaking at because they have been great sermons and I have been challenged in so many ways-- recently in the areas of generosity, which deserves its own blog.
I have been keeping quite the bucket list of all the things I want to do while I am in NYC... and it is happening. I did go to the Central Park Zoo earlier this month with my friend Arkadiy before he actually made his move back to California. Part of me was envious because I do miss my family and friends, but also lucky for me to know that I have my time here living where I have wanted to live, and also knowing this is a small chapter in my life where I am making good memories and hopefully continuing to grow personally and even professionally developing. I am learning alot about myself and learning more about myself and the balance I need in things.
2012 is fast approaching the end and 2013 and all that it holds is not far off, and I know my bucket list is pretty big. I have already had my first celebrity sighting which was cool, Daniel Cosgrove (he has been on All My Children, As the World Turns, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place...). I have become adjusted the routine of train ride, taxis, and walking. I have been more dedicated the gym and trying to really come up with a good plan to battle angioedemia, as my body still reacts to food (even when I think I have it under control). I have had to cut a lot of things out and do some lifestyle changes til I find the perfect balance, it will continue to be a battle. It has definitely has had an affect on my metabolism, and now it is possible that my thyroid is starting to be an issue, so luckily I go home to the doctor in a couple weeks to look at that. 2013 will also be full of "finish what I start".... as I am finishing my "year of absence" from Hope, and will be finishing my MBA in 2013, and it is something I am very proud of and look forward to. I also am becoming more serious on buying in or around 2014, but want to be prepared if something great comes my way between now and then. Obviously, I will be buying in California (where it is actually affordable. After living in NY, you'd understand why this is actually foreseeable). Also, next year I plan to be in a couple 5k Color Runs in CA (they have them in SF, Sacramento, Orange County-- it is considered the So. Cal Run, and San Diego.).... so if you wanna join me I can get you the info on dates when I have them for options.Another things is planning ahead.... I have a few entrepreneurial ideas floating around and just seeing if they will lead somewhere and what are feasible.
This also seems to be the season of prayer... not that every season isn't. As we near the holidays it seems as though life gets tougher for people. I would like to share a few prayer requests with you.... some are not for me but people I care about:
* Recently, a long time friend's family had a horrible event happen as her brother took his own life. He was just 19. The youngest sibling is taking it hard and prayers for the family for this time are appreciated as they process and heal. For them to lean on the Lord for comfort and strength.
*Prayer for a friend who is finishing up preparations to take his CPA exam. He has a lot of studying to do. Prayers for discipline, motivation, and to not be discouraged by the things the enemy puts in his path to knock him off his path with Jesus.
*Prayers for my mom as she continues to look for the best work to give her better work/life balance as she is getting more settled independently. Prayers too for my sister to adjust well to these changes as she goes back and forth between my mom and my dad.
*Prayers for my brother. Praises he got a job! Prayer for him to find direction, surround himself with positive people, and for God to just reveal himself in a big way that my brother can't deny.
*Praises for my friends who just relocated to the Pacific Northwest as they found a home! And for the ministries they are now part of in their new church family and as God uses them in those ministries. Prayers for settling and that God would continue to lead them.
*Prayers for me at work to not grow discouraged when I have a rough week. Prayers to remember God is in control and to have His heart when I am working and to serve him by HOW I work and the attitude I have. Prayers for God to provide as I desire to move up in the company, and how that plays a role in my relocating back to CA next year. Prayers for discipline as I prepare to come off my year absence from school and start back up after the holidays. Prayer for my time home coming up for it to be a time of joy and refreshing.
Thank you guys! I promise to post pictures soon :)

Reflections
In one week I get another year older and I look back at this past year and one year ago at this moment I was doing the same thing. I used to love birthdays until I hit about 25. 25 was a tough one, that I didn't handle it very well. I just thought, at that point, my life would be very different. When I turned 25, I had just started a new job that had nothing to do with my degree and making maybe $10 an hour in a bad economy, but thankfully I was working. I was still seeking and seeking "real" jobs, and felt I had missed something. Here I was at 25 without being in a steady relationship (and still to this day have some fear of them), not in the best job, but yet I was surrounded by great friends whom had seen me through a very tumultuous year.
Fast forward and here I am a week til my 28th birthday and I am still in some rut. I have a job with a company that is more "real". I never thought I would be with Verizon this long, but I have been. I don't hate my job by any means. I have some regrets in how I have gone forward (or rather backwards in recent months) with my career. The break from sales has been nice to figure what I want to do. But nonetheless, at a week til 28 I am definitely not where I thought I would be. I thought I would be married, with possibly kids, hopefully owning a home. It is amazing how we have plans for our lives and they don't always pan out that way. I am blessed to live the "dream" of being in NYC and living here. I know it is not forever, and I am learning to enjoy the moments I am in... because life is moving at an ever fast pace, and I only get today once. My personality, by default, is planner. It is not because I desire to be "boring" or not spontaneous, but I think rather it is my need to still be in control, and maybe that is an area God is working on in my life. I have had moments in life where I didn't think things through, I have been in positions I never should have been in... dated the wrong guys, but also the right ones. I have lived with some of the wrong people or lived in the right places, but I have also lived with the right ones in the right places. Life is full of lessons, and there are some I don't care to repeat. I have gone through lots of medical things the past few years with everything from bouts of depression to weight issues to being diagnosed with an auto immune disease. I also never thought the inevitable split of my parents and really family would affect me as much as it has. Here I am, an adult, and angry and feel kinda... broken... when I was not in the marriage, and the divorce does not change who the people are individually in my life. I have worked through most of it through the support of my amazing friends whom I couldn't love more than I do today.
Always about a week before til a week after I am very contemplative on where I am in life around my birthday. I think society brings about expectations for people on where they should be. By 30, you are supposed to have life all figured out and you are supposed to be stable, in a job, married, and if you are in the christian sub-culture... then you should probably have kids (pretty much the nuclear perfect family). Obviously, I am no where close to even half of those expectations. Granted, I am not in overwhelming debt many of my friends find themselves in with credit cards and those things. I am itching in completing my MBA, which I am hoping for next December if everything goes according to "plan". I am thinking somewhat long term about "buying" in the next 1-3 years a home of the sorts (condo or townhouse really), continuing my career path with Verizon and doing something other than sales, but thinking more long term with operations, management, marketing, or human resources.
With that does come some plans... and part of that is the time frame of my time here in New York. Many are already thrilled and some seem to be more bummed than I am. I will be moving back to California to finish my MBA because there is a class or two I need more help with and being online is not going to get me the success I need. I want to finish this program through Hope and I don't care how it has to go. I know with that I am also ready to start some of my other goals I just listed as well as some bucket list items such as getting my motorcycle license (be a cool way to ring in 29), be around for my two best friends getting married and being closer to my family, friends, and "settling down". It almost seems funny that I will end up settling in San Fernando Valley because really I grew up there with going to church and making some of the best of friends and it is familiar, but I also will be experiencing it through a different perspective.
As 28 comes faster than the speed of sound... I am reflective. Part of it is filled with "what if's" or "Had I....", but nonetheless there is some good and bad that comes with it. Wishing how something would be won't change what it is. I feel like part of me is still searching for the great impact I am to have while I am alive. Another is really seeing God in a different way. I have experienced God's grace over and over, and that I am reminded no matter how much life truly sucks sometimes... God is faithful. His faithfulness is always something we can count on, and it is something that never changes. There are days I hate being at work, or days I am super homesick (and something I feel like I shouldn't be dealing with when my days and months are numbered here to an extent). There is also fear that I will get the drag out from work in transferring back to California-- regardless of the capacity of my position, and there is also fear I am stuck. My life verse that has been with me since right before I graduated college follows me now and I close with this:
"I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, and to give you hope and a future". -Jeremiah 29:11

Little Things a Post-It Would be Good For...
I am learning more and more everyday little things.... such as headphones are magic in New York City. You become invisible to the crazies. I have such a grown appreciation for escaping into the world of music, but also what they don't know... keeping a low enough volume so I am always aware of what is happening around me. Gotta be smart.
Joined a gym here so I can stay on my goal target... I have a 30-day Challenge/Goal for myself and having weekly tracking to stay on top of it.
I have also learned that I would never have kids and live in the city. I see 9 year olds on a train by themselves and I can not even comprehend that. Like, really?!?!
And.....
One month from today I will be packing to go home for a week.

Things Sure Have a Way of Working Out
I have been in New York for 6 weeks, and I already have a time frame. Many people will be thrilled at this news.... some will be like "Say what?!?!". So let's back track first....
At the beginning of the year I was enrolled at Hope after completing the first year of my Master's program. I love HIU, it has been an amazing program, and even with it being online much to this point, I have so much support academically from the university and professors for my success. Yes, I had this at Cal Poly, but this is so different. I wish at times I had completed my undergraduate work at a Christian university, because it has been such a great process working with great professors who are praying for me and we pray for one another. It's been great. Anyway, I took the courses and they were harder than other classes I had taken in the program up to that point, and then pretty much things in my personal life (my family) was going up in flames in the background. Many know and were so supportive and prayerful in that time. Ultimately, fast forward to the end of the term, and I failed both classes because it was too late for me to file for withdraw or audit. Luckily, I have forgiveness through the university which will allow me to repeat the courses. My plan then was to take a break since my plate was so full. I then was offered to come to NY and transfer with Verizon... here we are.
I have been liking it here... been making good friends, I like the church I am going to, and working like normal. Definitely been struggling with homesickness a bit, but that is normal and I know that. This past week I began the process of ending my "Year of Absence" from Hope and build a plan that would have me complete the last 5 courses I need to finish my MBA, including an end date for graduation of December 2013. To complete this end date will also involve me retaking Finance and having to exercise the on-campus option... which is once a week in Fullerton for the duration of the course. I am very lucky and fortune to work for a company that enables transfers as well as a company who supports getting a degree or furthering your education. So come Spring I will begin applying (again) to transfer back to California. It is something that is weird to be excited about, because it is like I am just hanging out here on some long-term vacation, and I am in many ways. I have to finish what I started at Hope, and long term, I have always known California is where I would "settle". It makes no sense to move back to California just for the Fall term because Verizon definitely won't let a store "borrow" me for 3 months. So please be praying. California is definitely in my heart, and I was and am... more of a California girl than I thought.
I want to enjoy the time I am here and living my dream/goal of living in NY. Having a great experiences and soaking it all in. If I can do that-- I still succeeded. The plan is to apply in Spring and return back... but not to SLO (now the tears can come). It is not feasible long term to live there with barely any room for growth, and really it makes the most sense with my mom, sister, dad, brother, grandparents.... to live in San Fernando Valley/LA. I will most likely be staying with my Godsister or my mom as I transition back in the summer... and work and focus on completing the program... and graduating (and walking) next December. But then ultimately with a friend we plan to look for a place together down there. It is 15 months away.... but time flies, I mean we are already more than half way done with September, and 2012 is coming to a close. Summer will be here before I know it. Perfect timing would be the beginning of June, but it may not be til later in the summer. Prayerfully sooner rather than later for expenses and school. So please be praying that God would continue to provide, give discernment, and to make things easier on the days I feel unsure or defeated.
Thank you!

Political Soapbox
As we draw closer to the 2012 Presidential Election, the attacks begin and debates among friends, family, and co-workers as we put in our votes for this year's election. We are voting in a new President or for some voting to re-elect our already appointed official.
I want to make something very clear... it may be news to some of you (surprisingly). I am a believer in Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. I am not here to seek the approval of man, but God's approval and ultimately am in His accountability. How I vote is a reflection of whom I follow, and before I go into any election I pray for God's discernment and wisdom as I vote. I don't enter the polls blindly, and sometimes I surprise myself when I don't just vote for my party, because generally speaking I suppose that would make sense. I am a registered Republican currently in a very liberal state, especially liberal city (New York City). I have been voting for 10 years and even was voting all those years in another liberal state, California. I know that my electoral college is going to vote "blue" regardless of how I vote. I am just making my opinion, it is not a say all.
In the re-election of President George W. Bush, I voted for him hands down. I supported him til the end of his Presidency. He is a man who loved this country, loved Jesus, and did all he could to protect our freedoms and keep us safe after the terror of 9/11. I live in a city that still seems to recover from that if you ask anyone. Many people in this city, regardless of their political affiliation, respect him for how he approached and responded to the situation. I have friends who are in the military who supported Bush, and friends in the military now who have never supported Obama. I don't think I have any military friends who support Obama. I have friends who willingly (and I appreciate them, pray for them, and support them) for deploying, enlisting, and joining the armed forces to continue fighting and protecting my freedoms and safety here in the United States of America. I have these friends who know why we have been fighting this war on terror and they go fight it. I couldn't have more respect than I do for these people who literally are on the front lines standing up for the beliefs of what this country was founded on... freedom. He owned up to his mistakes. In this video link below, it reminded me the day I watched it why I was a Republican and why I voted and never had unwavering support for George W. Bush:
In the last election, of McCain v.s. Obama, I voted Obama and the one platform that meant the most to me at that time was International Affairs, the War on Terror, and National Security. I felt McCain had more experience and was a stronger candidate in that area to continue preventing 9/11 from happening again as Bush has done. Now, Bush said some pretty "out there" things but he was also relatable. He brought it home and made it real that we are a country that fights together and sticks together. He was in office when one of the most horrific acts hit our nation, and anyone in his position had to act quickly in order to keep us safe. Last year, with the death of Bin Laden, which was a big victory for America and the War on Terror... Obama took all the credit. Forget the fact Bush had for 7 years of his presidency had been laying the ground work and creating military plans, it is our soldiers who get the credit!! Which leads me to being in alignment with Governor of Arizona in fully closing our borders. We need to take care of our people before the others. There is no such thing as a free lunch and it should not start with those here illegally.
Now, here we are in a new election period and this time the platforms I am most concerned with are economy based. Our deficit has dramatically increased since Obama took office. He made a lot of promises and didn't fully survey the situation. Obama has repeatedly attacked the Christian community, moral values, overturned legislation put into practice by former leadership. He fully supports gay marriage, abortion (I am Pro-Life, so this is a big issue for me), and Obama Care (which I am admittedly against. He wants "In God We Trust" taken off of all public/government property including money, taking "Under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance... Where does it end? When I enter the poll, I have to with a clear conscience say "Okay God, I reflect YOU to my state and country and that there are people in this country who still hold true to this. In the last general election, 30,000 million evangelical Christians did not vote (and were registered), and Obama won the election by just over 10,000 million votes. That is significant. Very significant.
So going in to this election, no one can say anything to make me vote for Obama or for Romney. I am not a supporter of either to be perfectly honest and it is sad we are just a two party system. I don't vote that way, and don't plan to start now. I don't need to have debates on my Facebook page about it if I put up a post about Ronald Reagan (I believe his economic reforms from the '80s were FANTASTIC and he also was a Christian man following Jesus and His morals and platforms displayed as much).
I do pray for our current president daily, for the decisions he has to make, for the proposals he brings before congress and legislation being passed that God's will be done. I serve Jesus, not Barack Obama, or Mitt Romney... or George W. Bush or Lindsay Lohan, but God alone. I am not gonna fight with people about my opinions and feelings. I don't need people forcing their thoughts down my throat until I "see clearly" how I am "wrong". I should just write "Jesus" on the ballot because that is who my true leader of my life is. Now, I am not stupid... I am more than well aware of the likelihood of Obama being re-elected for another 4 years. Completely aware. It is pretty much in his corner. I am not surprised, or even shocked. Do I think the country will get better? No. Do I think we will continue to lose moral sight of things? Yes. However, I don't think Romney is much better.

My Food Rant
I have noticed something here in New York... something interesting enough to share in a little blip... and since this is my blog... I can do that, so here I go.
With all of the coffee shops in the city that are unique in atmosphere, people who go there, flow of traffic, and offerings.... (and many are not too crowded) how does the majority choose Starbucks? Is it convenience?
Now, I reside upstairs in on the 2nd floor of a 4 story walk up building on the Upper West Side in New York. Starbucks is just on the bottom level, and I still don't have the craving or addiction to it. Granted, every 15 drinks I do get one for free.... which is smart business on Starbucks' part. However, I walk by many little hole in the walls, corner buildings of local "only in New York City" places that are half as crowded-- and smell amazing as I walk by and yet... Starbucks every one of them, a block apart from another is almost line out the door crazy.
Then, being in a city with Restaurant Row, having some of the most amazing restaurants and foods in the country.... what is packed every single day?? Chipotle! How does a restaurant, that was once upon a time owned by McDonald's Corporation, that busy and popular with all the other options around. You see more tourists in these two places than anywhere else. Now, when I was just a visitor here... or "tourist" if you will.... I would not gravitate to those places (I can get them ANYWHERE). It is about getting something you can't get anywhere else. It is what makes the city not seem so big because you have "local" things and holes in the wall...
I think for me it all comes down to that. I come from a small town... well anything is smaller than New York City, but supporting mom and pop shops and not corporate America seem the way to go. I know, I work for Verizon, another corporate giant, but I feel like it is more odd to go to run of the mill, every day places than ones where there is none like it. I know the choco bar on Broadway has great dark espresso.... but doesn't mean I can get the same taste somewhere else. Maybe that is what it is.... consistency.
Starbucks who is known for lowering the quality of their product and raising the cost of the product is consistent for that. I even think they stopped their "legendary service" moniker because they just want you in and they want you out. However, you can go anywhere in the world and most likely.... your grande vanilla latte with soy is going to taste exactly the same... brown milk with some sugar. It is comfortable, it is what we know... we ook for green mermaid cups and know that Starbucks can't be far behind. We go to Chipotle because it is a get you in and get you out place. No need to connect with anyone, it is an assembly line up to get a burrito and be on your way.
I want to challenge friends and whomever gazes on this... go local... for 1 month. Support local business, try new food, don't go to fast foods, go to that hole in the wall place that seems dim... you never know what you will find. Perhaps expanding your horizons will be a good change for you :)

Love
Where did the year go? Tis year has flown by and now we are about to enter Fall.
I have now been in the city and taking it all in for about a month... And I have only driven once since being here when out in Long Island. This past week I received my NY state driver license after a week prior surrendering my California Driver license. at the same time also changed/updated my voter information.
God is good. I am reminded of this daily from people I have met, friends I have made, those I have reconnected with, and the church I have become plugged into. I am blessed with great roommates who brought me in as an instant friend within their groups, and now go to the same church as one of them. After a few tries at churches here in the city I have begun regularly attending and signed up for community groups with Redeemer Presbryterian Church... Music to my mother's ears as she also goes to a Presbryterian church. Tim Keller is a great speaker and brings solid teachings, as do the other pastors of the church at the three congregations in the city. I also began re-reading "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan and I am once again in a moment of re-examining where I am in my relationship with Jesus and seeing where I need to grow. I just finished the chapter about being "Luke warm", and two things stuck out to me where I identified where I am and where I want to be. Those reminders are also quite the rude awakening.
As I enter the fall season I pray it is a time I continue to grow and develop as I seek opportunities and see the doors God is opening and which he closes. There are moments I am homesick as I miss friends and the life I had built for 10 years and my church family, but I know this change was good and God really had everything fall into place in His time and I am learning so much about myself and seeing God work as He provides, protects, and changes. Prayers in this area are welcomed. Also prayers for my brother who continues to struggle with his inner demons and having no direction. He truly needs to let Jesus fully in His life and this is my biggest prayer for him. Also, I am trying to be at peace and learning more and more to love like Jesus to others as this is the foundation of who He is and also the hardest thing as people to do.

First Lessons in the City
I have been in the city one month and have already learned a great deal, and in some ways been reminded of things that I forget.
I have learned DMV doesn't just suck in California, it sucks everywhere and New York is definitely no exception. It is one of the most disorganized place for chaos in the city. After 3 hours of spending my times in lines (thankfully they have some spotty wi-fi) I surrendered my CA State license in exchange for an interim license as I await my NY State license to make it in the mail... which leads me to...
The dependability of knowing the Postal Service also sucks. It has been a battle sending and receiving mail. Many of my letters out are delayed, while others get them in record time. Also, not receiving mail that is being sent directly here and not being forwarded from California. I think the mail is like the lottery and there is a chance I may not get it. You would think with the reduction overall of people sending mail with everyone emailing, tweeting, facebooking, and alike that there is less mail for them to process, which in turn simplifies the task. Apparently not the case.
I am learning that in New York, that while you have everything and anything at your disposal from grocery stores, shoe stores, FedEx, clothing stores, churches, cabs.... some things come with a trek. Target, a great experience in and of itself requires a 40 minute trek just to go about 2.2 miles. Ikea in Brooklyn involves subways and ferries with the completion of home delivery because you can't have three girls bring a dresser back on a boat, then a subway, and then up your 2nd floor walk up.
I have learned that delivery time frames... are just that... frames. When they say between 5-9... they mean... see you at 8:45pm, but don't really tell you that so you can give up your evening of things you could be doing like laundry, grocery shopping, gallivanting.
I have learned that grocery shopping here is actually better for the budget. While it is said it is slightly more expensive to buy food here... I am actually buying what I will be using. Since I don't have a car to load up with weeks worth of groceries, I must buy wisely and walk it home.
I have also learned that routines can be key, and this includes making sure you have a good pair of headphones for walking or running around the city, or even on those commutes on the train. I have learned running in Central Park makes for a great workout and just walking to work 40 blocks down (2.2 miles in 40 minutes power walking).
I am also learning the real greatness of facetime, skype, and facebook.... to be connected to those who I can't be with here in New York, and it makes them feel just that much closer :)
I am also realizing that no matter how big New York is... God is just that much bigger!

The Adventures Have Begun
Moving to New York has been nothing less than adventure to date. I am all for excitement, but I also like some sort of a routine. Having been in New York for almost a month and for the most part settled with my stuff that is familiar in a place that is slowly becoming familiar.... I wonder when the "newness" will fade.
I have not had the moment people have asked me.... "I live here" thought! And letting it sink in and soak it up. I had the opportunity at the right time, with everything falling into place by God's grace to be where I have wanted to be for many years. I am in a place where the opportunities are endless for those who have drive, motivation, and the courage to go get it. You can't sit idle and hope it comes to you... you have to JUMP and roll over, and anything possible. Two weeks in to working in my new area I realized "I really don't like retail hours nor the concept of retail". Mind you, for two years I have worked for Verizon, and overall been satisfied with my job and company. I have great benefits and perks and the pay is worthy for one with a college degree (and slowly pursuing their masters). The job security is solid, and I am adding to my skill set to continue to be an asset for this company and potentially for others. Now, yes, that sounds so can fed boring, I almost bored myself to sleep writing it. It is true though; I am doing these things, but am I passionate about them? No. I have no one to blame but me and I would never think to blame someone else for the position I am in or would be in. I know the areas I am passionate in, and I know the opportunities will come as I seek them and ask God to be in the details. God is always in the details, and I think that is what I forget sometimes. He orchestrates everything. It doesn't matter what I want or think I need... God knows all those things, and if I want to do what He wants His way, I had better think twice, right? It never works on my time table, in my way, but God's. When good things do happen... I never soak it up, I wait for some fall out. I never want to get my hopes up and I look for the hole that could bring everything crashing down. Bad perspective, yes... working on changing it? Absolutely. With God all things are possible. I mean here I am.
I came here after living 10 years in a place which will always have a place in my heart, and a part of my heart is forever there. In those 10 years I gained "family" through an amazing church, friends, and loved ones I wouldn't trade for the world. Will I be in NYC forever? Doubtful. I know me too well to know that once it wears off and I (perish the thought) miss driving.... and miss my Pacific Ocean and want the calm small town, non-city life again... I am sure the Central Coast will be there (God willing). I know it is there, because it is comfortable. It also lacks opportunities in some personal and professional ways, and sometimes change is good no matter the length of the season. God never wants us to be comfortable or complacent, and I was there.... and now... I am here. I am blessed once again with great roommates who love the Lord and encourage me each day. The hardest part beyond meeting people, settling, nailing down where I will be grocery shopping to trains to take for various things.... is finding a church. Nothing will ever replace my church home, Oak Park... but God knows where to lead so I can continue to grow and serve and have community. I have tried a couple since living here; one was so..... commercialized that is wasn't church to me... either I am getting older or my values are mellowing out, but I want church with generational diversity. I want my cute old people in the front, and youth kids and kids running around as well as young families and professionals and the whatnots. I don't need a rock concert or lots of lights and theatrics. Just community, fellowship, and a strong teaching and opportunity to grow closer and serve Jesus in my church, community, and in the world. Prayers are always welcomed in this area. One of my roommates does go to a church I went to a year ago when I was visiting, and I really liked it. It was more traditional and more "my style".... and so I am feeling led there.
Other than all that.... things are great. I love the walks around my neighborhood and being a block from Central Park, and a half block to my train to get to work or anywhere in midtown or downtown Manhattan. I love the fact it takes a water taxi/ferry to get to Ikea, and that I am just as close to New Jersey as I am to Brooklyn (travel time wise). I love that a ride on the train.... is always an experience and something you either pray you can block out at the end of the day or remember. A couple weeks ago I got off on a stop to run errands in midtown and a homeless guy at the end of the stairwell was singing "Our God is Greater" and all he had was a guitar... and I am not sure his motive for money or if he was singing to worship or a bit or mix of both, but the words in itself... I was blessed by and reminded. It doesn't matter how big of a city I live in or how bad things get or tough... He is Greater than all of it. It is amazing how God can use just about anything to remind me of things I should always know and remember.
I wish I could tell you I am being a tourist in the city.... but... well wait... I don't wish I could tell you that. Living here is a way better experience than touring, and I am learning a great deal about myself and what I can handle. For those who have me on Facebook, I update the pictures when I can (and no, I don't frequent the Starbucks on the bottom floor of my building).
Thanks for the prayers, kind words, love, support, and to those who have Skyped with me.... it's always great :) For those who don't know, I will be home visiting on the central coast for a week in October from the 26-Nov. 2. Until then, Skype and those avenues will have to be a good substitute.
Blessings and Joy,
Caitlyn

I've Made It...
It has been a surreal past couple weeks, and I am pretty sure that is the feeling I am going to have for awhile. I was reminded how blessed I am with friends and no matter where I am, those people will always be in my life.
Besides the few couple of mishaps (and we all have them in moving), it was pretty smooth and everything was falling into place. The last week became hectic as I began shipping my essentials and then my mail forwarding started too early sending my new apartment keys back to NY. The week was filled with friends and some of my family and I did pretty good with not crying too much. I know this is what I have wanted for a long time, and I know this is a good move for me to get out of my comfort zone and go somewhere else and I understand that. I just wish I could take some people with me. You can't always have your cake and eat it too.
Last night I felt the stress from being stuck in Ventura 101 traffic for over 3-hours. It was a little frustrating... luckily we made it in good time with that mishap and then found that I am too good of a packer in bringing too much in my luggage and got a nice "Weight Overage" charge for one of my check-ins. I got through security very easily and quick and made my way to one of the way too overpriced restaurants to have a drink and something to eat since I couldn't eat on the way down. There was a lot more waiting and gate changes and delays due to another plane breaking down and needing our intended jet... so we had to wait for another one to become available. An hour and a half past scheduled time... we took off. Due to the late landing I had 20 minutes to make my way across the airport in Boston to get my connecting flight. It definitely beats the 2 hours I was going to have to wait. On time... landed at JFK and I really lucked out with a good driver into the city.
Driving through Brooklyn toward the city the driver let me know the areas I could not be in EVER. But I did get confirmation that Brooklyn Heights is okay and saw the construction of the new stadium underway. Crossed the Brooklyn Bridge and there I was.... in the city. The driver gave me great tips to where to grocery stops and the areas of the city to avoid at night... and reaffirmed how bad of an idea it is to run in Central Park at night (I can't believe there are women who think this is a good idea). Made it to my apartment and the first thing I did---- SLEEP. Got a good little nap in and went for a good walk.... I like to know what is in my immediate vicinity... located Fairway, Duane Reades, and Trader Joes pretty quick and saw some cute shops that could be dangerous to my wallet :)
It seems like a long day and I am pretty sure I am going to sleep more than well tonight

Preparing to go...
Time is ticking.... at this time two weeks from now (time I write this, probably not the moment in time you are reading this) I will be flying probably over Ohio or even Pennsylvania on my way to the next chapter in my life.... New York. 10 Years ago today (well technically yesterday, but since I have not gone to bed yet... it's today).... I moved from small town Frazier Park to San Luis Obispo with goals to reach.... college and be on my own. I accomplished both of those things-- and learned many lessons along the way.
Fast forward 10 years and I am doing the same again. I am packing, sorting, getting rid of things.... and I have accumulated quite a lot in the years I have lived here from furniture to more clothes than I need to trinkets and projects from Cal Poly, pictures.... the list goes on. I work now on condensing and simplifying and really trying to downsize from having a large room the past 4 years to a room almost half the size and going to an apartment after living in houses for the past 5+ years... and it is something that I will definitely have to re-adjust to. I finish my last week in AG this week working, and not a bunch is setting in. I feel like I am just cleaning.... not moving. I sold my car yesterday and praise God really for how it worked out, and the timing may not be ideal but my needs were met in it. The car was paid off, and I was able to walk away with some too which is nice. I have packed a few boxes, separated what is going to my Mom's, and space bagged a lot of things as well. My goal is to ship everything I need out there mid week next week so it will arrive the day of or after I do. The lease for my new place is reportedly being drafted... so I would assume based on that my app was approved. God really provided the living situation very similar to what I have now.
In praying I realize God has been orchestrating. I don't feel much yet except overwhelmed and in task mode. Just gotta get things done, and ready, and trying to be smart about it and really let things go. I don't think it will set in until I am working in my new store and building a routine. Maybe it won't set in until I find a church out in the city. Who knows really?! God does. Prayers this week as things start moving quickly as I clean, pack, prepare... that I would depend on God for strength when I am feeling a lack of energy, and take moments to enjoy the time I have with the dear friends I have here.

Whirlwind Week
It is amazing what changes can happen in a week's time. This time last week I was preparing to go back to work after 10 wonderful days in Mexico. I was expecting to hear back from a spot in LA for a transfer. I never did expect to also be offered a position in NY as well. Well a week later, and having accepted the offer for NYC... my prep begins. I am in the middle trying to sell my car and bed... the two things I need to sell and also begin the daunting task of going through the last 10 years of my life... and get rid of a good portion of it. I realize how much I have kept... how much I hold on to.
As.... unpolitically correct as this is going to be: I understand what George Carlin was saying about having too much "stuff". It's all "crap", most of what we have is not necessities, and I am figuring out that now. I am deciding what I value the most and putting in the order of importance. I am blessed for those who will be helping send things out as I need them (since I can figure out what I do need). The plan so far is to take clothes, some pictures (send them out ahead of time). I am lucky to be flying on an airline where the first checked bag is free and the additional is $35 bucks. Not too bad, and an inexpensive was to transport a good portion of my clothing and the whatnot.
Please be praying as I finalize housing over the next few days. I am submitting paperwork tomorrow for a place in the city that is close to everything in a safe area, with a couple of Christian girls... a God-send for sure. Something I truly value; this is something at the top of my price range, but I was reminded that who I live with will have a huge impact on my "experience" or quality of life and this is true. While NYC is more expensive to live in, I also don't part-take in the "bars, clubbing, and eating out every night lifestyle". I know applying Financial Peace University principles back into my every day discipline will also make God the focus in my financial decisions as well, and I am excited about that. I also found out that there is a Trader Joe's close by.... I also found there is no Ross but a T.J. Maxx, Whole Foods Market, No more Albertson's/Lucky, Vons/Safeway... but now it is Fairway, farmers markets, and the other aforementioned places. CVS' aren't every where but a few Walgreens here and there and the city is covered with Duane Reades' where ever you go... there one is... open 24/7. And it never fails... Starbucks will be all over. The apartment that I am going to be moving into (given all the paperwork goes well) is a 4 story walk up (ours is on the 2nd floor) that sits above a Starbucks, 2 blocks to Central Park, and 1 block to Lincoln Center.... so I am near a ton of things, in a well lit area, a block from the trains and will be 4 stops to work. Also excited to have treats such as Dunkin' Donuts (mainly for the coffee), Crumbs, White Castle, real pizza. So it is all slowly coming together. My last day working in my current store is July 20th... and then I have 9 days that are combined days off, personal days, and vacation days... and they will be filled with packing, finalizing, and trying to spend time with those that I can.... and doing some "lasts for awhile" in California including the beach, Avila Barn, Farmers Market, and depending when my sister and mom show up take my sister to the water slides. Might even be able to fit in the fair since it starts that week. Regardless, I will value the time I have and know that I will be back to visit.
It has not all fully set in yet, even the more I talk about it. I think once I am in the city and working it will hit me one day that I am not on vacation or just hanging out, but that it is my life. That might be a tough moment of adjustment, no matter how much I want something. I have been so blessed the past week with the love, encouragement, and support of friends and family that I am so overwhelmed. God reminds me of his love through these amazing people, and I hope they know how much they mean to me and that I love them too. I will look forward to visiting next June and Skyping throughout the year... and having my couch frequently occupied by these people.
So that is where I am now. If you know of anyone needing a car..... I got one for sale :) Please be praying for my stress level and that I would just work steadily on getting things together and give it to God in the moments I feel overwhelmed.
Thank you for your support and prayers to this point, it is such a wild moment in my life and I am so blessed to have you all to share it with.

It is hard to believe....
It is hard to believe that what we work so hard for and pray for.....
happens. I know God is capable of ANYTHING, and He does it in His
timing. After 6 years or more of perserverance and determination and not
giving up hope... I am moving to New York City. I will be working with
Verizon still and so I am very fortunate and blessed to do that--since I
actually so like Verizon. I am now in the scary second phase of
securing housing from where I am now and that can wear on a person. So
please be praying about that. Also, the big things will happen. I will
be selling most of my furniture and things as well as my car. Luckily,
my car is in high demand, and I am sure I will walk away with a good
amount. I am thinking to a dealership so they can take care of
everything for me. I am not sure how consignment will do-- so I will
have to look into that.
The next few days I will be working on housing. Then in about a week and a half I will start focusing on selling my car. So if you know anyone looking to buy a 2005 Honda Civic with 87k miles on it (black, 4 door, power everything, new stereo, bluetooth) let me know. I still owe on it but less than half of the cars KBB value. So those are the logistics of things... also be praying for my roommates as they decide how to move forward in whether to look for roommates or somewhere else. I have a lot to do between now and then, so please pray for time in everything. I have one weekend I am already out of town for a wedding so hopefully I can take some things to my mom I don't need right away that she can send me down the line.
So a lot happening as the end of the month draws near. I will be buying my one way plane ticket this week so prayer that it doesn't get too expensive. Thank you all for the encouragement, support, and prayers. It means alot... I am so overwhelmed right now and not sure how to react in any logical way. I think I waiting for it all to sink in. It is going to be a crazy rest of the year I have a feeling.

Earning Time
I have never thought of time as something to be earned. I think about how I spend my own time and what I "waste" time doing and find so many opportunities to change it. I want the time I have to be productive...ninvesting in people and in my own life. One of my biggest pet peeves in the world is what people are late to things or don't plan well resulting in flaking on me or being late, when I have done what I can to be on time. It is a sign of respect... And respecting others is a big one for me in general. I do what is in my control to be a person of my word and do what I say I will do... Including WHEN. I don't think this should be difficult, yet it is for a lot of people.
Time management is a skill we all need professionally and personally to be 1. Productive and 2. To show respect for self and others. I value people I choose to spend time with enough to be on time, and having been in a family my whole life who can't be on time and always being an hour late to holidays and missing the first 15-20 of church... Thisis something I have definitely embraced in not doing once I was in control of my time and responsible for my time.
Time encompasses so much of who we are and we complain so much about not having enough time or how "time flies", but how much do we waste or not pay attention to? I think some comes down to just not caring and being selfish, but other parts I think other people don't share their importance of time and let it slide. We have so much time each day outside of work to enjoy being outside or to be with people.. And it is also priorities (which we talked with our youth kids about this past Wednesday). How much time do I truly give God each day? Or time do I truly give to people? Or is it wasted being on Facebook or watching tv? I am guilty of this at times and it is something I really want to commit to changing a bit. I began using the phrase I hate " I'm just so busy"... But it is amazing how much time I find to do the things I think are important or waste on myself and not spending with other people. I tell people I am busy and can't make plans but if someone else whom I value greater perhaps..... I somehow have all the time in the world...or I make it happen. This is so wrong.... God doesn't always put people in my life for me but perhaps it is about them. Being selfless with my time realizing it is all borrowed time from God is the biggest take away I can give. I am here to love and serve.... and my tool is time.

Not Knowing
I hate not knowing. I also hate being put into suspense... when it has to do with me. I am not good at waiting, God knows that. For the past 10 years (well 10 years in July) I have lived in one of the most beautiful places with amazing people. I have made wonderful relationships with people who have impacted my life. Some of those people have been in my life for just a short season, and others are still here for what could be a lifetime.
Lately, and when I mean lately I mean like several months, I have been itching.... to go. Go somewhere new, or somewhere that can help fill in the blanks to things I desire to have in my life. I love the central coast, but I will say... it is a cutesy town where everyone is married with kids in their 20's and I am not there, and you definitely can feel like an outsider. Not to say I don't want those things... I do... but I am not rushing either. When I am ready to have those things.... the pool is quite mirky.... and what is in the pool... not much. The pressure to have the family is something I think that happens in a small town. In a bigger city no one cares as much, the couple cliques aren't there, and the pressure is off. There are moments where I don't want to get married ever because I like the freedom to go and do what I please and also... 50% of marriages end in divorce, I am watching it happen right now in my own family and I can't handle it at times. It infuriates me because people's true colors come out in the moments of "getting what's theirs" or rather what they think is there. I don't want the same odds. But as I itch towards 30 in the next two years and kick and scream to get there... I wonder if I missed a boat to go somewhere I should be. Am I behind? Have I forever missed what I should have? I have pursued NY and it seems to get my hopes up and crash and burn. Maybe it is just supposed to be a special place I visit every year.... I wonder these things and I pray all the time that God would open my heart to where I am supposed to be if it is not NY.
Currently, I am pursuing option 2.... Southern California. Unlike my last attempt that took me miserably to San Diego where I was in a bout of serious depression, I came back because I left for the wrong reasons. I had left to hide and I complained the whole time to everyone around me. Well here we are 4 years after that experiment and working for a company I like, and making good money... all good stuff right?! But something is missing..... the other stuff I want at some point, and it won't happen here most likely. I don't like the Bay Area... and well.... I don't know where else to go... but I know I need to go somewhere. So Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley seems like the best option because I know it. It is familiar, there is no big adjustment. So... we shall see where this road takes me.

We all need cheerleaders in our lives
I was reminded tonight about the blessings I have in my life-- even in the midst of feeling crazy stress and being overloaded. Not that Facebook by any means is what I should measure my blessings by, but 21 people liking my status about the progression of transferring to New York-- by applying again to the new spots that have opened, and the words of encouragement and prayers mean more to me than I think they know. I am so blessed that the moment something happens in my goal towards NY, Heather is the first to text me about it or message me in someway to encourage! It really blesses me. It blesses me when my Aunts encourage me to people preparing me that they will be sleeping on my couch when I move. It blesses me when Kim will watch The Avengers with me and tell me she doesn't want me to move to NY because of all the attacks that could happen.... ;o)
I feel as though over the past 10 years when I moved to SLO from little 'ole Frazier Park I had a lot of people waiting for me to fail. Many people said I was not going to make it and that I would be coming back with in a year. Maybe that was a big motivator for me to prove them wrong... because I am one of the most stubborn people (it is not my best quality), and I hate to let people see those things in me. I struggled and struggled and on my own after 6 years of hitting bumps in the road graduated from the only school I was going to go to-- Cal Poly. I feel I have overcome all those things and 10 years later and many trials I am stronger (because of Jesus) and I am ready for the next chapter ahead.
Since before I got into Cal Poly my dream and goal has always been to live in NYC and work in the city. And I have been pursuing it with applying for jobs, and networking. I now work for a company that can potentially let me do this and am in a new round of applying for not 1 but 4 spots in the city. Like the first time around... I have people who have surprised me in their support. I also have been surprised by those who have not expressed it. I know it may sound vain-- but I am gonna say it anyway because I can-- but it is also disconcerting to find those who don't believe in me still or don't take me seriously in the things I want to do in my life. I still have the dreams of "getting married and having a family", but as I itch closer to 30, that seems harder to accomplish. I don't want to see it as a "goal" because it is not a game, nor is making a big move 2,800 miles away.
I realize too I need to be thankful for the moments I have right now and in what I have because they are all things that are way more than what I deserve. I have amazing friends and family, a great church... all amazing support systems from New York to South Carolina... all the way to California to Oregon to Wisconsin. God is good in how he puts people here, there, and everywhere. We all need someone or people in our lives to encourage us, cheer us on, and let us know we are gonna make it. People who will help us get to where we need and want to go. I think we all have those people in our lives, but we get so tied up in what we don't think is going right-- we miss out on what is right in front of us. We all need cheerleaders in our lives, and we need to always remember that I number 1 fan is Jesus!
Some prayers: Prayers for my mom as she feels discouraged with life throwing some trials her way or continuing to throw trials her way. For God to provide and bring peace from finding a job to having her car work correctly and that she would quickly get on her feet.

When You Don't Expect It...
You never want to get your hopes up until it is safe and yet I find myself wanting to be a little excited now. Tis mornings was emailing with a recruiter in New York about the status of positions opening up in New York as we head into summer and she was telling me to check back in at the end of the week but it was looking positions would be opening up this summer in Lower Manhattan. Of course I am super stoked because the communication between New York and I had been great.... And I appreciate this recruiter trying to help me... And within a couple hours 4 positions with the company in Midtown and one in Union Square opens up. This afternoon right before I found out I was talking to Maribel autoworker about how she should try to get in with New York since LA was giving bender so much push back about ransfering an she was agreeing since her goal is to work for a Mac Pro store... (she is amazingly talented and would do so well).. And 5 positions of hers opened up in the city as well.nsonprayers are appreciated because this goal is one I have to work hard for and it is worth every bead of sweat.

Have We Forgotten...
Remember when you used to go over to people's houses to catch up? Or if they were far away right a letter, put a stamp on it, and send it off. Sometimes you would enclose pictures. Remember being so excited to get mail hoping you got a post card from a friend who was visiting Disney World? Now we get text messages, twitter updates, or Facebook replies for all these things. There is not full effort in our interactions. When was the last time I sat down and had coffee with a dear friend to find out how things are going with them? I would say at least 6 months.
Today, a good friend of mine and I went to lunch after going by his work for car related stuff (and trust me... if you need any body or collision work done on your car... he is your guy). So, anyway, sitting there having lunch I thought "when have I done this last?". When is the last time I made lunch plans for the sincere desire to connect with a person? Or just to go out and get away from the phone, the computer, the tablet.... (the list goes on) and saw someone face to face.
I think we have gotten so comfortable with technology. I have joked in half seriousness that "Facebook makes me a better friend. I always know people's birthdays". I have like 800 Facebook friends, and I appreciate every single one and the connection I have with them from having gone to elementary school with them or Cal Poly or worked with them in some capacity... to going to church with them or having met them through someone else or we share some common interest. However, a shout out on Facebook is not connecting. Facebook does not allow or give me the real opportunity to invest in the person. That is who I am... a connector.
I love connecting with people and helping other people connect together. I was talking to my friend, Will, today about my long term business idea of networking. Connecting people to others who have services they provide. People that I can give personal testament too. I am blessed with talented people in my life from Photographers, DJ's, Real Estate, Car mechanics, Car Sales, Event Coordinators, to those who have their own businesses from jewelry, make up, clothing stores, baby sitters, nannys,.... you name it. Connecting is what is important and filling needs where we can. We are people who love to connect, even introverted people like to align themselves with others in some capacity.
I am challenging myself.... I have 2 days off of work a week.... and sometimes evenings. I want to use those opportunities to connect. Whether that is with one of the girl's from the youth group, or someone from church, or a friend whom has been going back and forth with me about being busy and we never have time to get coffee or dinner. I don't do fake relationships (I can't fake feelings or put on the fake face), I want genuine around me. I love people (as a whole). Yes, I am confronted with those who test those limits daily, but truly I desire to be around people and connect. To go beyond the surface. Facebook, Twitter.... all surface. When I first got Facebook you had to have a college email account and it was for really connected and networking (much like LinkedIn). Now it is a madhouse where people live lives more through that than away from it. Facebook is a very powerful tool both positive and negative. It can hurt relationships and make you work a lot less to maintain them. Nothing can ever best replace face to face, same room contact.
So challenge yourself-- find that person you have not talked to in a while and invite them to coffee.

"Re"
I have really learned a lot about always moving forward and not going backwards. I can actually say... my boss has told me this over and over (and heaven's forbid.... she is right). This season of life has brought on many challenges as many changes with my family happened that I dove right into and supported everywhere I possibly could. It didn't help I was also in two very hard master's classes with Hope and working a ton.... and still wanting some kind of a social life-- no matter how small it may be.
The prayers for my family are felt and appreciated more than many of you can know! I feel the love and support of many of you as my family goes through transition and how God has blessed me in ways to step in and help where the needs are within. This term, I ended school not in good standings and will be retaking these two troublesome courses in the future. After much prayer, I am going to be taking a break from school for at least summer and most likely Fall so that I can focus on work, and my family, as well as what the future might hold.
With more responsibilities coming, it only seems best to relocate to So. Cal first while I finish school and be closer to my family. NY is still a goal, but it is one I want to accomplish once I am half way done with my student loans being paid off, and not more than tripling my living expenses. I would like to be done with Hope as well. Also, I would like to be closer to my mom. We are a lot closer now than we were even 6 or 7 years ago and I don't want to sacrifice that when I feel I am needed as well.
So this season ahead is time to recooperate, regroup, refocus.... lots of "re", but all good things I believe. I still desire to remain with Verizon because it is a good company to work for and they have afforded me opportunities for things I haven't had before like have my car, live comfortable, and be able to best help my family where and when I can.
Prayers for my family would be appreciated still and for me as God opens doors that I would recognize when and where they are to walk through them. I have felt very discouraged this season, but in this season I have been blessed with the deepening of dear friendships... and also a changed mindset how I approach things. I am not gonna work harder than another person to be friends. I am a give and take kind of person... and if all I am giving is that and there is nothing for me to take from... then it is not a beneficial thing.
I also need to "re"alize that I probably don't need 802 FB friends.... lol.

Wreck Alley Creme Brulee (Courtesy Karl Strauss Recipe)
Wreck Alley Crème Brûlée
Ingredients2 cups Wreck Alley Imperial Stout
4 cups heavy cream
1 cup granulated sugar
12 egg yolks
1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
6 shallow, oven-proof ramekins
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Place stout in pan, bring to a slow boil and reduce to a ¼ cup. Place cream in a non reactive pan. Split vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape the seeds into the cream. The pod can be used as an additional flavor enhancer by adding it to the cream while heating, remove and discard before whisking. Heat cream and vanilla slowly until steaming. When cream starts to steam remove from heat. Do not boil the cream. While the cream heats through, whisk together egg yolks and sugar with wire whisk until pale in color and sugar is dissolved, about 1 to 2 minutes. Pour about ½ cup of the hot cream into the egg yolk mixture whisking quickly to temper the mixture. In a slow stream, add the remaining hot cream to the egg mixture while continuing to mix with the whisk. Add the reduced stout to the brûlée mixture and mix well. Divide the mixture evenly into six ramekins, placed in a deep baking dish. Fill the baking pan with hot water about half way up the sides of the ramekins and place in a pre-heated oven to cook for 40 minutes or until just set. Check for doneness by gently shaking the ramekins; the brûlée is finished baking when the edges are set/firm but the middle still jiggles a little. Place the ramekins in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to cool before serving.
Finishing:
Sprinkle the top of each brûlée with a thin layer of granulated sugar. With a kitchen propane torch (available at most household supply retailers) point the flame onto the sugar and heat until it begins to melt and is deep golden brown color.
Or
Use the broiler setting of your oven to brown the sugar by placing the brûlée about an inch away under the broiler flame/heat source for 20 to 30 seconds. Check frequently to ensure even browning.
For an additional twist on this classic, add your favorite fruit like strawberries, raspberries or banana slices to brûlée. Gently insert fruit pieces by pressing them into the cold brûlée and follow the same finishing instructios above.

Curveball
Life is full of many uncertainties and yet also filled with so many possibilities. I was thinking about a lot of things over the past couple weeks about my real goals and aspirations. My whole life it has been my goal to have a better life than how I grew up both financially and stability wise. Something my mom taught me and showed me the importance of. Growing up I always wanted to work in the entertainment industry in some capacity (well the respectable kind). For a long time, I wanted to go into acting and spent time in both Jr. High and High School in plays (kinda died down in High School because well... I went to not a great high school with a horrible drama program). At the latter end of high school was told I needed to have a fall back plan in case what I wanted to do didn't work out. I was told this by my mom and friends and so I did just that--- went and got my degree from Cal Poly. Even through it I have always had this interest in the industry but after going to a lot of TV tapings growing up and also having even seen movies filmed (my midnight adventure with Matty Barclay watching Jeepers Creepers filmed at Tejon Ranch), I loved that side just as much... the production side.
Fast forward to now.... working at Verizon and making really decent money and still wanting more. I am in Grad School and will finish sometime next year. And my options are two things-- move to LA or move to NY. Both those areas provide the ultimate goal (and will keep me busy trying to get a position that will get me to what I am passionate about). Interning on my days off or working for scraps so I can get the "in". The past few months I have interviewed for positions with Verizon in NY (and didn't get the position), and continued applying for positions with Verizon in Southern California as well as I became torn of being closer to my mom and sister (and even brother sometimes) during what has been big change in my family the past few months. I applied for a position in Northridge with Verizon a couple weeks back and it ended up being filled by someone else in the district. But, last week the recruiter for the district set up an interview for Valencia and their open position. This is not what I was expecting and my excitement level was not totally there. But I realized... I don't have to live in Valencia..
And for those who don't understand my excitement about Valencia (or lack thereof excitement)... I lived in Frazier Park (and hated it) during high school and Valencia feels like some extension of that. But then again... I don't have to live in Valencia either. So, I interviewed and I felt it went well... so not sure what the future holds with that. I know I must do the responsible thing and let the job take me somewhere and not go anywhere without a job in stone and a dependable paycheck. And it puts me in LA, and closer to opportunities to get me to NY or in the industry I want. I have lived on the Central Coast for 10 years almost (in July) and have loved every second of it. I am very blessed... but I also know my opportunities for many things I want in life are limited. I can't do studio work here and the "dating pool" is limited and 30 ain't coming any slower....
So prayers for the outcome are always appreciated.

Interesting Stream of Events
Recently, after moving my mom and sister out of Frazier Park, I thought I was supposed to do more what I am supposed to do rather than what I was wanting to do. Maybe this is why New York has been hard to sort out and the job opportunities are not there with Verizon right now, but more ops outside the company were coming up over anywhere in California. A few job reqs had appeared through Verizon, and I was applying to them but they are not going anywhere.
Yesterday, I shot an email out to the HR Manager that I have been in contact with on and off from NY to check in and express my interest in NY still, and instantly she got back to me again within a day and told me what the prospect is and in May would know where she would be adding positions, and to check back in. It is amazing that I can email other store managers, HR people, and whatnot here in California within the same company and not get a single reply-- but I email NY and get a reply everytime.
I was more excited to get an email from NY HR than I am from anyone in California. And I was reminded that it is all about timing, and maybe Verizon and NY as a pair are not out of the question for me. Now, yes.... but in the future-- no. So, I will continue to push and drive and pursue it.... and have the faith it will pay off in the end-- and hopefully sooner rather than later. LA is a great back up just to go somewhere (I am feeling restless these days), but NY is where my heart is!

In a Funk
I have definitely been in a funk the past few days... maybe the past couple of weeks. I am not in a bad mood or a good mood... I am just kinda going through the motions. I am so overloaded with school, work, and everything else that I just want to hide under the covers and stop time and just have time to think and breathe.
I am not too sure where God wants me, and I have the general idea that he doesn't necessarily care where we are geographically speaking (unless we are called to be missionaries-- not my calling that I am aware of). My heart is and always has been New York. I feel like it is the hardest pursuance and I will end up settling for some thing else as I think about alternatives. I didn't get the position I applied for within Verizon in NY. I truly am at peace with it because it was the most intimidating feeling applying to a store that is the biggest and highest volume store in the nation.... especially coming from a store of 10 employees to going to a store of 35 and so.... I am learning... you get lots of no's in life-- you only need one yes. I would like to have that be sooner rather than later. I just know I am ready and eager to go "somewhere". I am very blessed to work where I do and live where I do, I have never said otherwise. My options are limited in this area for what I can do to make a decent living and well can we say the "available pool of 'worth my time' bachelor pool" is limited.... VERY limited. I am out of the "prime" age to find someone in this area. I am usually not overly concerned with this due to the fact that I don't really care too much when I am not in a rut (or I am lying to myself-- one of the two). Maybe I am just too picky about things.... like where I live and how it happens and what I want from life and a person.
I have always been a goal oriented person; knowing what I want and working hard to get it. That goes back to wanting to move to SLO, get in to Cal Poly, get into Grad School, working.... all of it. Patience is not my strong suit, but when you see life moving for everyone else around you-- it makes you think "what is wrong with me?" or "what am I missing?". There are moments I have even found myself asking "Have I ticked God off in some way that I am not going to get "a" "b" and "c"." I do wonder these things.
I don't usually share this kinda stuff with anyone. I mean... everyone has their own junk going on-- taking on mine would be clear insanity. I also feel like it is child-like whining, and that is not something I want to be known for. I am usually go with the flow and if it doesn't matter a week from now, I don't give it much thought. I look at my goals and dreams and wonder when those things will begin taking fold in my life, and what am I doing to prevent it from happening sooner.
The past few weeks I have wondered after a sermon at church if everything I want it just gonna get the same answer from God: Wait. Oh good.... more waiting. I am more open to moving back down to the San Fernando Valley than I was even a year ago. After the experience in San Diego (and where I was at the time emotionally and mentally), it scares me to think about what will happen. I moved to San Diego to run.... to run from life, my feelings, and at a time when life was just sucking (quite emo). I think those months and that year and a half changed me. I put people through hell and back and yet also found out the true friends in my life through that and lost some friends a long the way. I am thankful every moment for those who stuck by me through my self-destruction because they saw beyond that. I feel as though maybe I am now holding myself back.... getting complacent... and this funk isn't helping.
Prayers for balance with school and work (as I apply for an incomplete in one of my classes), health as I feel like this is taking a toll on that in the area of exhaustion. I am always tired (more than usual), and feel like I am gonna cry or scream at any moment. You know it is bad when you cry in front of your manager....I get sleep, but I feel like my brain is probably on all night.
Writing has always been the best way for me to sort out the chaos that goes through my head 24/7, and simplify it. It may look simple, but really it is quite convoluted.

Is this Progress?
So, my interview on the 15th.... was good. I think. It was for over an hour and I am still waiting to hear back. This week I also have been in contact with a District Manager from the neighboring Zone in NY, and he is also in contact with my District Manager and Store Manager.... maybe it's good. Prayers would be appreciated!
Also, I have spruced up my look (mainly so I can see):

Full February
February has been quite the month... first I must cheer and shout as I am so glad the Giants won the Superbowl. I am not big into football (in comparison to my loyalty and love for the Yankees), but good game. Now... if the Jets ever made it to the Superbowl... that would be awesome.
With the shortest month of the year only half way done it has started out well. For those who caught the screenshot one of my dear friends put on my Facebook page-- I went to Ellen last Thursday with my wonderful roommates and it was so much fun. I love how all that stuff goes with production and seeing how it all comes together. Very fast paced in comparison to tv shows I have seen taped. The next day, we went down to Disneyland and it was a lot of fun, and the perfect weather.
Now... the update-- my interview with Verizon for the position in NY was postponed, and so I interview in just a couple days. The time has given me a chance to connect with the ASM in the city to find out some things, which was very helpful in going into the interview and to also let my final numbers for January post. I am approaching this month just as aggressive and pushing what I can and want to be at the top when February finishes out. So prayers for this week.
Also, I am going to be going to another allergist.... cause my doctor is not a fan of the one I went to and wants all my tests redone including blood work. Oh joy.... and he knows my love of needles (HA). Also, I have caved and will be seeing an eye doctor as in recent months driving at night as been really problem-matic and my near-vision (thanks to my roaring 20's as a student in front of a computer and text books-- and my awesome job) is not as 20/20 as it used to be. So, I will be seeing someone this week. Other than that... I am pretty healthy in the midst of everyone else around me getting sick.
Tomorrow is my bah-humbug day. Now, I am all for loving people and all that crap. I feel like I love people everyday. I don't agree with the hallmark marketing and the rise is flower costs. I don't agree with the world making you feel like crap when you are not attached (and for the record.... it is by choice I am currently single.... cause well the "m" word still scares me most of the time)... anyways... tomorrow I will be working and making money while everyone else out there is spending way too much that they wouldn't normally spend until Christmas. And heck, I just bought myself some nice shades this weekend-- does that count? Cause I am the best gift giver for me... I always get what I want and need. Just sayin'.
Also.... here is my blurb: I care a lot less about issues than I used to. Let me explain... recently (and coincidently), Ellen Degenerous was bashed by the group One Million Moms on Facebook. JCPenney recently went into a partnership with Ellen for her to be their new spokes person. She is one of the most giving celebrities in the industry and well respected. Well this group... whom only have 44,000 members... not sure where the other 956,000 are... but went off on both JCPenney and Ellen for pushing the gay agenda. First off... shopping at Penney's... won't make you gay or not gay. This group claims to be Christians, but are quick to judge a world that is not supposed to be held to the same standard (no non-believer is). As Ellen said the values she lives by are ones that are good and universal of giving to others, respecting others, treating others the way you want to be treated, and being kind, and loving others. If God is love... where does bashing come into that? Well I realized.... if it doesn't personally affect me or my relationship with God... who am I to bash someone else? Who am I to say "your stuff stinks worse than my stuff?" How dare I tell someone who does not share my beliefs to hold my Christian principles as their own when they don't even know Christ. Even if they do.... I need to love people first, and not offer my opinion unless asked. I have been asked, and in a loving way I have said "I love you and while this or that is not for me or personal values or beliefs I hold based on my relationship with Jesus it is up to you what you follow and between you and God how you take care of things". I am not saying what is right and wrong here... because I live my life based on what I believe is right and what I feel God would call me to do".... I am no less of a Christian because unmarried people choose to live together or because of same sex marriages or partnerships. I am no less saved because people want to legalize marajuana. I vote because I care about my country and I see the needs and vote according to the issues that do affect me personally such as economical issues and international affairs and taxes.
(jumps off soapbox).... I will say... someone said based on what I do think I am probably more leaning towards Libertarian (fiscally conservative and socially liberal).... I am beginning to agree with that.
OKay, that is all! :)

Be Anxious for Nothing-- Okay God, I am trying here...
I am reminded of 1 Thessalonians where Paul talks about not being anxious for anything, but with prayer and supplications make your requests be known to God. I feel like I get this way every time I apply for a job, and now it is within a company I work for and I feel as though I have to prove myself even more so. I just need prayer right now to not be anxious, but to trust Jesus that he knows the desires of my heart and will meet my needs according to His will. .. and that I would be at peace with that.
Also, prayer for finance homework... it is taking a lot of out of me.

Tidbits of Everything
Recently I have received a few messages and texts asking how I am doing, or what my thoughts are going into the current election.. and so... here it all is... short and sweet and some prayer requests at the end.
Life/School:
Life is good. I am busy and school is back in sesh. Finance is NOT my thing and I am being reminded of that right now. I am very appreciate to the wonderful T.J. who attempted to help me through Google Docs the other night. He is kinda my hero right now ;-) So prayers for this term as I am feeling overwhelmed by an area I am not very confident in that I would push through.
Work:
There is some good and big things going on. I hit my one year mark with Verizon back in December. It has been such a learning experience as I learn that I am actually pretty good at it once I really push and stay determined to work hard. The harder I work, the better my results. I know that my success is largely in my hands. I can really own what I do. In this area.... big things. I have been looking for my position or ones that are similar to what I am doing or in the HR field with Verizon in New York. Positions in the city are hard to come by and I have known that I would have to work hard and be patient for something to come up for me to apply to. I came across a position yesterday for a position in the city for what I am doing now. I immediately jumped on it. A couple weeks ago I had already emailed one of the HR reps for the New York Metro area to let her know my interest in moving to that area. She was very receptive and let me know the best time to really push looking. I told my manager about the email and she was surprisingly very supportive. So, she knows I applied for this position and is going to also email the store manager of the location on my behalf. So prayers for this area would be appreciative.
Church:
Things are good. The youth group is staying very consistent. As leaders we continue to work very cohesively together, and it has been something I really value and I love serving with these people I am blessed enough to call "friends". Prayers right now would be appreciative for both Heather and Aaron. Aaron is our youth pastor, and Heather is his wonderful wife. She is currently expecting their second child in April and has now been on bed rest. So prayers that they would make it through this transition and this trial. Prayers that God would protect all of them and continue developing the baby girl and for good health. The next few weeks we are doing adjustments since Heather is usually very involved with the youth ministry along side Aaron, so prayers are definitely welcomed.
My Political Window:
This has been tough as I have been viewing the candidates with the primaries just weeks away. I am wondering why the Republican party can't bring out a truly stellar candidate. However, I have seen Romney take the lead for the party, and this is not the BEST thing. He has got a lot of Obama like ideas, and heck he had his own version of Obama care when he was governor.... BEFORE ObamaCare. Yeah, no thank you. buh-bye. The other front runners seem a little nuts. Newt... not buying it, Ron Paul is getting some getting some good hype as well... but I want someone strong morally, ethically, and to not infringe on my rights. I want to see job creation, be morally conservative, knock out our debt, have a good plan for national security and plan for our war overseas. I want someone tough on immigration and on securing our borders... so I have solidified my choice for the primaries... to Rick Perry. He is everything I mentioned. He is also a devout Christian and we need those morals in our white house and in our country. Overall.... our country needs prayers this year as the election goes under way that God would lead the right person into office and that our country and people would get back to having a moral core. Prayers for our country to become a strong nation again... not being owned by China from all the borrowing we do. So... that's my little window. (www.rickperry.org)
Misc...
We are getting a new roommate. The past few months have been full of interesting events. We have had the door swing open and close more than we would like. So prayers for us to live together cohesively and that we would mesh well together.
Overall, prayers for good time management and for good life/work/school balance.

Newt... not buying it, Ron Paul is getting some getting some good hype as well... but I want someone strong morally, ethically, and to not infringe on my rights.
