Easier said than done, right?! I know it is for me. I am always thankful for my many blessings for being provided for, my family, and my friends.... and I am not always one to fully accept blessings when they first appear... partly out of disbelief that I even deserve them, or that if I accept it, then it will be ripped away.
Last week I got the call from Verizon Wireless that I was "contingently" hired (given I passed the background check). Gosh, talk about being anxious, and being a nerve wracking few days. I knew I had to tell my boss something because I was to start with Verizon on December 6, 2010 and that would mean I would be traveling up to Walnut Creek for 3 weeks of training, and then coming back to work in my new store, in Arroyo Grande. I finally told my boss last Wednesday, and it went exactly as well as I thought it would.... not very. But he understood. My last day is this Friday, and I head up Sunday Night after the Drive Thru Nativity (which I recommend for everyone in SLO County to check out), to Walnut Creek. Sunday-Thursday nights for three weeks will be spend living at a hotel, and coming home on weekends for various commitments and to enjoy some part of the Christmas Season with those who mean a great deal to me. Christmas Parties, and plays, and everything that goes with this wonderful season.
So please be in prayer in this time of transition, as I am losing my constant schedule. To adjust well with being away from home for so long, and to also adjust to the changes. Good changes. Prayers I pick up all this new material quickly.

Prayers for Smooth Sailing...
Have you ever wanted something you didn't expect, and when it looks like you had it, you weren't ready to fully receive it just in case it was too good to be true?
Over the past couple months, I have been applying to jobs that are here, there, and everywhere. For jobs with real opportunities for advancement and a "career" type job. And overall my plan is to end up back East, and that has not changed.
I was offered a position yesterday with Verizon Wireless that I have accepted.... everything is good to go pending my background check clearance. Yes, I am nervous..... I have worked so hard this past year to clean up my credit, and really just pay things off, and apply some Dave Ramsey principles... and I hope it pays off. This background check will verify my education, 7 years of past employment, credit, public records, driving record, and references. So, I am a bit nervous about it. Not that I have anything to hide, but my credit is not quite where I want it... and they say that if one thing does not match what was on my application... then that's it, and the withdraw their offer.
So prayers for the background check process that is goes smoothly and goes quickly. I won't be able to give my current job 2 weeks notice because if everything clears I am in the Bay Area for 3 weeks starting December 6th, and able to come home on weekends. So prayers for everything to go quickly, and that all the details fall into place. I am trying to not get too excited yet.... just in case something weird happens. I have submitted my approval for the background check and I take the pre-employment drug screening tomorrow morning. So prayers that everything moves fast and smooth. I am very excited to be moving forward and being able to get closer to my goals. Once I am there a year, I can transfer pretty much anywhere I want, and apply for positions with HR and other avenues as well.... so more details once things are finalized.

To Serve....
The past few weeks with the Jr. High and High School students we have been discussing "Service". It seems to fit the time of year as we get into the holidays and we can choose to approach it in one of two ways.... to give or to receive. I know that sounds so "campy", but really it is true.
With our students we are emphasizing "giving" to those who have a need. To serve. To love Jesus in a way that it pours out to others in doing what Jesus did. He helped the poor, the sick, and the lost. And since we are to be "Christ-like", we are called to do the same.
All over the world, everyday, families and communities suffer. Some because of economic hardships, or a tragedy (such as Haiti earlier this year). And in those moments, we can be a light to that dark corner of the world.
So, we encourage our students to do the same. To help at People's Kitchen by serving a meal, or donating clothes to local churches or organizations that are truly "not for profit". We encourage them to have toy drives, food drives, and blanket donations for those who are homeless. There is even a need in our church for families who need clothes, or food, or even just pure and unconditional love.
This can be a joyous time for people as they come together with their loved ones, and for others it is a dark time as they are lonely and have no one. Will you be that someone? Will you be the one to love those who have no one loving them? Reminding them that Jesus loved them so much, he was nailed to a cross-- died-- to prove it... but also a God who keeps His promises by rising on the 3rd day! That is a love we are to pour out to others.... because we received it first, even before accepting it.
As we look to the holidays.... where can you love? who? and how and where can you serve? Anything from a shoebox going overseas for a child in need of basic needs and toys, to your neighbor next door who needs a babysitter for a few hours so they can take a night job to pay for their needs. There is no limit on how God can use you in this time, if you let Him. To be like Christ is to serve. Are you ready? Do you want to be used? Are you ready to sacrifice your time, your wants, and your needs in order to share Jesus and His love? If so... get ready.... cause God will.

What were people smoking last night?
The election results created a similar feeling in me as the one two years ago with Obama was elected into office.... a sick to my stomach feeling, and in addition... some bewilderment.
Back in 1971, California had Jerry Brown (or as I like to call him Moon Beam) as Governor for two terms, when he decided to run for President, and lost. In the beginning he was known as a fiscal conservative, which obviously is something California needed then, and something we need now (within reason-- cause we are cutting the wrong things). At the end of his second term, California knew he had done alot of damage from his time in office. And you fast forward to his time as Mayor in Oakland as they are filing Bankruptcy protection....
2010... he is running against Founder of Ebay, Meg Whitman. She has a lot of business savvy, but not alot of political experience. Granted, running a dot.com company doesn't make you a budgeting extraordinaire... but we have seen two actors as Governors... and one of them ended up also being the President of the United States (My favorite President in History: Ronald Reagan).
This election though.... determined one thing.... where California was going. Given the two top candidates it would either remain where it is... complacent, and needing some direction or down. And well, California voted last night that it was not in the toilet and they wanted it to be.... and Moon Beam now reclaims his throne he left almost 30 years ago in January.
It makes me wonder.... what the heck people are thinking? Because people complain about California having one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation, the worst schools (number 49 or 50) in the nation, some of the highest taxes, over populated, our immigration and illegals tolerance is out of control.... but really.... let's vote for the man who did nothing his first two times around. A man who has a proven track record for these things continuing to not make us The Golden State anymore. He is the reason that Manson has yet to be executed, he is the reason why we have this environmental crap getting in the way for years of job creation. People first. And that is not what Moon Beam will do.
I was no fan of Whitman either, but she was the lesser of two evils. Did I vote for her? No. But I sure as heck did not vote for mini-Obama either.
If people aren't smart, they shouldn't vote. Can I get a prop on the ballot that if you are illiterate and/or your IQ is less than 120 you can not vote?!?! Would you approve it if I got it on there ;-)
