An Encounter Reminded Me....
Ever since yesterday I have been in thought since some members of the Jehovah's Witness' group came to my door. They were looking for Kristi... you would think in that she gave them a run for their money and they would be wary in coming back... but that was definitely not the case. So, in pajamas began to engage in the discussion of "God's Purpose", and that road continued to the differences of a Born-Again Christian and Jehovah's Witnesses. While, I believe there to be many difference between Christian beliefs and Jehovah Witnesses beliefs (one being the believing in the Trinity), I do begin to see something in both Jehovah Witnesses and Mormon religions... passion. Maybe passion is not the right word... but they are doing what they are told to do by the one they serve. While I do think they have the same verse in their version of the bible "Go out and make disciples of all the nations", it is interesting.... they go door to door with such a kind heart-- and yet... I wonder... in knowing each person is given gifts from God to use to glorify Him and to serve Him... how often do we miss the call? I guess this goes along with the book I am currently reading "Don't Waste Your Life" by John Piper. And it has me thinking about what difference am I making for Christ? But their coming reminded me to pray. To pray for our community and that the Christian community would have an impact and that. It also reminded me to be ready in and out of season, and to be more in the Word for those times when false doctrines and teachers come my way. One thing I do respect... is their vulnerability to go door to door with getting doors slammed in their faces, and yet they don't seem to lose heart. It was only reinstated today as I have begun working on a devotional I may use for my cabin this summer at camp: Narrow and Wide Gates from Matthew 7:13-14. How many people walk the wide path and very few find the one that is Narrow. The Narrow path has trials, temptation-- but the greatest reward... as Romans 8:18 reminds me.... "for the sufferings of this present time are not to be compared to the glory which shall be received in us"!! I definitely can respect them while not agreeing with them, and see them as Christ sees them.... they need Him!
