As the passing of Proposition 8 continues to be fought, what amazes me is this; Everyone is wanting equality and tolerance, but the real group suffering is Christians. We are also a population, a group.... just as others who are either Muslim, Gay and Lesbian Community... and we are to give tolerance and equality. There is talk of Proposition 8 passing being an example of hate. Well I feel like there is a lot of hate towards Christians, but I am not tagging buildings and protesting. Heck, I think if we were really tolerant and wanted to make "everyone happy" we would not pass prop 8, let prayer back in schools, let religious observances still be an excuse to miss school, we would allow the teaching of homosexual education in schools. If we were tolerant of all groups and people we would either have to be accepting of EVERYTHING as being right, or reject every theory and lifestyle. We live in a democratic country still... for now... and Prop 8 was passed democratically, but as I was thinking... with the whole country having this be a hot topic, why not let this go to be a federal law and put into the U.S. Constitution. All the states under some of the same laws as others.
There is my political spew for the week... :)
So at church... we have been going through the book of Colossians-- my favorite book in the Bible... in case you didn't know. Colossians is so great because Paul is so good at calling people out and letting them know what they ought to be doing. It is so encouraging and really reminds us of who we really are. I think Chapter 3 of Colossians is the meat because Paul tells us the virtues of being a Christians and people in this world at that-- Patience is our virtue and the Love of Christ we give to others.
