Remember Full House, Boy Meets World, The Secret World of Alex Mack, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Remember Jelly- heeled shoes, pastel sweatshirts, and bangs!
Remember REAL Saturday morning cartoons
Remember reading Tiger Beat, Archie Comics, Baby-sitters Club
Remember not having to worry about the economy? Remember not having to wonder if Santa would bring you that doll house or bike?
Now we wonder what our next paycheck will cover?
Now we get excited when "Santa" i.e. our parents offer to pay a bill for Christmas
When gas prices were down to 3.50 in August we got excited
Today we have half of the country praising a man about to come into office in January and the other fearing for the future of this country
Remember being 15 and being upset when we didn't get a good allowance that wouldn't cover that shopping trip, or going out to eat with friends, or have money to eat at school. If those were the only worries now, then we would be golden. Now we worry about being in a recession, and worry about how long it will last. At 17, we worried about trying to get a job because people deemed teenagers as irresponsible and immature.... now we worry that the reason we don't get jobs is because of hiring freezes, being over qualified, or under qualified.
Remember when the big issues were having the new shoes, or who would be the ASB class president? Or getting excited when Britney Spears won her first MTV Video Award. Remember just being excited to vote at 18? The excitement is now just our civic duty... and in that we now worry about what will be passed and what won't. Who will be our new commander in chief, and who will be our President the next 4 years. Today we still have controversey over a passed by democratic means Proposition 8 (It passed, and yet people are not mad at those who helped make it happen, just continuing to ride the government) *Side note.... it may be allowed to allow same-sex marriage but its just to shut them up. Just as long as they are respected who cares about the feelings of those who said no. I think we now live in a one-sided society. Anyway... we still are in the battle after the election. Then there was let's save the animals from bad treatment, but it is okay for a 14 year old to get an unconsented abortion because she was "stupid" (i.e. made a bad choice, and did not consider consequences). We value animals over human life which is nice to know. And those are the worries. Who would know all of that would be on us in the 10 years since it was a big deal when Boy Meets World went off the air or 90210 (the real one), or worrying about getting the license at 16.
Remember when we didn't understand and we still wanted the allowance. Remember if it was tough for our families 5 or 10 years ago... right now must be killing them or breaking their backs even more. Is this a time to worry? Is this a time to continue to focus that God is bigger than the recession, and that God will always provide. God doesn't need money, the economy, or President-Elect Obama to achieve His will and give provision. Because while times have changed on earth and we continue to grow and mature... Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8)!!
